Melanie Marquis – Carl Llewellyn Weschcke: Pioneer & Publisher of Body, Mind & Spirit

Having unexplained experiences for most of my childhood, I began to explore and research this in my teens and early adult life. Much of this research was done by acquiring books on metaphysics, alternative spirituality, psychic phenomenon, mystery schools and related topics. The majority of these books were published by a company out of Minnesota called Llewellyn.

What I did not know at the time was that the publisher, Carl Llewellyn Weschcke, was responsible for much of the renaissance of these teachings and their acceptance by a wider audience. Who was Carl Llewellyn Weschcke and how did he birth this metaphysical publishing giant.

My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Melanie Marquis, knows this story well. Melanie Marquis is the founder of the United Witches global coven and the organizer of Denver Pagans. She has written for Circle, Pentacle, and the American Tarot Association. Melanie’s books, published by Llewellyn, include The Witch’s Bag of Tricks, A Witch’s World of Magick, Beltane, and Lughnasadh. She is the co-creator of the Modern Spellcaster’s Tarot and the coauthor of Witchy Mama. Melanie lives in Denver, Colorado. He was awarded with the Los Angeles Treasures Award and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, American Composers Forum, California Council for the Humanities, and the Rockefeller Foundation. He is a noted lecturer and has been invited to speak at numerous schools including: Yale, John Hopkins University, UCLA, MIT, Berklee College of Music, University of Chicago and Esalen Institute. Yuval’s first book Divine Attunement: Music as a Path to Wisdom won the Gold Medal for Best Book in the Spirituality Category at the Indie Book Awards 2015.

Lucinda Clare is the writer and narrator of the guided meditations contained in “Voyage of the Chakras.” She is a renown actress, who trained at Marcel Marceaus mime school in Paris and at the presigious Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Ms. Clare is also a voice over artist and a writer.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve been hearing a lot about the “deep state”, and a “secret government” that really runs things beneath the polarizing puppet show we watch on the news.

On one end of the spectrum, we have authors like Mike Lofgren who acknowledge the interlocking directorate between corporations, the military industrial complex, the intelligence community, and government that has rendered the will of the people largely irrelevant.

On the other — and particularly since the advent of Trumpism — we have the “deep state” as the secret government that will enslave us through the “new world order”. There are even people I know who voted for Bernie Sanders in the primaries, and then for Donald Trump in the election because they fervently believed he was our last hope in liberating us from this “deep state.”

So, what’s true? Who’s right? Is there a deep state — and is it a threat to you and me, and to our freedom?

The Planets This Week: September 10, 2018

What do the planets have in store for this week? We have a New Moon in Virgo, love planet Venus moving into Scorpio and action planet Mars in Aquarius.

On Sunday the 9th, the Virgo New Moon turns us toward more serious matters after a period of playful indulgences has passed. Many of us may be mulling over the nuts and bolts of our daily life. Work may be a concern or perhaps a health matter, or even how to run our lives more efficiently. During this time, we should evaluate the areas that need improvement. Making to-do lists and clearing clutter is the best use of this influence.

Love planet Venus moves into Scorpio where it will be until October 31st. This is an extra long Venus cycle as it will be turning retrograde on October 5th. While Venus is in Scorpio many of us may find ourselves longing for deep intimacy and intense passion. We won’t have much patience for superficial connections or casual dating, preferring to relate to a few close friends and one significant other. When we get involved, we will want to give all of ourselves and reveal the very core of our being.

If you’re in a partnership, this could be an excellent time to deepen your bond and strengthen your sense of trust. But you may need to work through some of the shadow sides of Scorpio to get there — jealousy, abandonment and betrayal.

Mars will be moving into Aquarius so we may find ourselves asserting our independence and individuality. We will long to break free from other people’s expectations of us and want to experiment with expressing more of our authentic self, taking the risk of letting your eccentricities show.
