The New Republic of the Heart – From Emergency to Emergent Seeing
A Conversation With Integral Thinker and Author Terry Patten
“Can we undo the doo-doo that has been done, or will the done doo-doo be our undoing?” — Swami Beyondananda
There’s the classic story about the hiker who slips off a mountain trail, and the only way he can break his fall is by grabbing on to a thin branch. As he holds the branch, he sees that it’s only a matter of time before the branch breaks under his weight. So he begins to pray for God’s help. To his surprise the clouds part in the sky and he hears an unmistakable voice that says, “Let go.”
He continues holding the branch, and once again and louder the voice says, “LET GO!”
At that point, the hiker turns to the sky and asks, “Is there anyone else up there?”
That seems to be our human condition, and conditioning, when faced with the kinds of vexing issues we face today where our survival as a species is threatened, and yet we continue to do the very same things today that we did yesterday, things that only make the problem worse.
Our Wiki Politiki guest this week, author and integral thinker Terry Patten calls these kinds of problems “wicked problems” because like the “whack-a-mole” it’s hard to address these problems in one place because they keep popping up in another place. Even as we are aware of the dying parts of the oceans, the rising seas, the melting ice caps, and all the other burgeoning crises that seem to be gathering into one perfect storm, we seem collectively paralyzed even as we desperately seek a solution.
A student, practitioner and teacher of Integral Philosophy for more than 15 years, Terry co-authored Integral Life Practice: A 21st-century Blueprint for Physical Health, EmotionalBalance, Mental Clarity, and Spiritual Awakening with Ken Wilber, Marco Morelli, and Adam Leonard. His new book is A New Republic of the Heart: An Ethos For Revolutionaries, A Guide to Inner Work for Holistic Change, and the book faces unblinkingly the current “shituation” and offers a way through to the other side. He is quick to point out that our situation is dire, and there are no guarantees of success. And yet this “new republic of the heart” does have the potential to gather adherents and coherence … and may be the key to our species’ evolution.
Tune in for this rich conversation — sober yet ultimately hopeful — as Terry Patten offers examples of “evolutionary activism” and how we make the shift from “me to we”, heal the traumas of our collective human history, and find new ways to work together and use our inner transformation to transform the collective.

How Bad Do You Really Want It? – ENERGY FORECAST for the Week of March 19th – 25th, 2018
This week your energy is best spent taking inspired action. The universe is supporting forward movement so act on that Divine inspiration that is flowing through you. Take your creative ideas to a new level of implementation and don’t be deterred by challenges along the way. Babies constantly fall down when they are learning to walk. It’s not a sign that the universe doesn’t want them to learn how to walk, it’s the universe saying… “How bad do you really want this?” If you are running into roadblocks be more creative and try something different. As we move into Mercury Retrograde it’s critical to communicate clearly and accurately, follow-up is key and don’t take anything personally.

The Planets This Week: March 19, 2018
What do the planets have in store for us this week? We will be celebrating the Astrological New Year on March 20th. In the Northern Hemisphere we will be moving into the Spring time while in the Southern Hemisphere the season is Autumn.
The Spring Equinox occurs around March 21 each year, when the sun enters the Cardinal sign of Aries and the spring season officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere. The Sun rises due east and sets due west, no matter where on the planet you are. Days and nights are nearly equal.
This coincides with the Sun moving into Aries so this show is dedicated to all you Rams out there! Aries is symbolized by the Ram, which is highly appropriate — this sign is headstrong and impulsive, and won’t often back down from a challenge or confrontation. While confrontations can be exciting, they can also lead to a frustrating locking of horns with an imagined foe; and that, in a nutshell, explains a significant part of the Aries experience.
Also this week, the dreaded Mercury retrograde is upon us! This will be a period which requires a great deal of conscious effort on your part with regards to your communication style and content with others. There is a strong tendency to blurt things out or to be blunt in ways that are less than useful. Your perception of what other people say may be skewed by your overly eager and anxious desire for action.
Many of us will be highly impatient to get things moving and that translates to impulsive words that may cause quite a stir in others. One of the hardest but most important feats to accomplish during this period is self-restraint, especially when feeling most passionate about a subject. We will create equally passionate responses.
Tune in on Monday 6pm PT/9pm ET to find out more…

The Blind Spot In The Bathroom Mirror
To be witnessed, observed and seen.
Being in the spotlight can actually be terrifying for some while for others, they crave and need it.
What about us makes us comfortable to be seen, and how much does self worth and judgement play a role?
To be witnessed feels more like an honour, perhaps even a soul request for partnership and support. Are you someone who feels drawn to be witnessed ? If so, can this be a role taken too far and become one of dependency?
Is it ok to just want to be in ‘the shadows’ ? What times in your life do you feel this way ? Perhaps whilst you’re learning , growing, or even simply recovering and repairing?
Today I share a story of the most important witness in my life. My hopes is that this episode will help you to identify when it’s safe for you to be observed, witness, or seen and how that will support your spiritual growth and soul evolution.

Unlocking the Cage – Why Shouldn’t Animals Have The Same Rights As Humans? with Steven Wise
“In December 2013, Animal rights lawyer, Steven Wise, showed the world how, with a little legal jujitsu, an animal can transition from a thing without rights, to a person with legal protections. He filed the first-ever lawsuits demanding personhood rights for animals, on behalf of four captive chimpanzees in New York State.” So wrote the director of the Movie, Unlocking the Cage, shown on HBO earlier this year, which covered Steven Wise‘s first lawsuit in his groundbreaking crusade, where he takes on the role of defender for captive chimpanzees who have suffered a number of traumas.
The Founder and President of the NonHuman Rights Project (NhRP), of which Jane Goodall is a board member, Steven Wise’s lawsuits have brought animal personhood to the forefront of the conversation surrounding our society’s relationship with animals. So, why shouldn’t animals be protected from abuse in all the same ways that humans are?
Join Sandie and Steven Wise this week as they discuss:
* Why animals need legal personhood for their own safety
* Tommy and Kiko – the chimpanzee stories behind the headlines
* Why the distinction of “persons,” not “people,” is important
* If the courts see corporations as humans, why not chimps?
* Why recognition of nonhuman rights is the best and most lasting way to change nonhuman animals’ lives for the better
* The mutually reinforcing relationship between nonhuman rights and human rights
* And more…
About the Guest: Steven Wise
Steven Wise has spent decades fighting to ensure the well-being and humane treatment of all animals. His lawsuits, and the movie Unlocking the Cage, herald a monumental shift in our culture as the public and judicial system show increasing receptiveness to his impassioned arguments. If successful, Stephen Wise and his team could forever alter how animals – in and out of captivity – are regarded and treated.
