Nick Redfern - The Slenderman Mysteries
Growing up in the fifties and sixties in Brooklyn, New York, I often heard stories…stories that today would be called “urban legends”…about evil beings and people. Often told by older kids, camp counselors and some adults, these stories were designed to frighten, perhaps intimidate and most definitely nurture nightmares. These were the pre-digital, pre-cyberspace days, and story-telling was a verbal art form. With the advent of the internet, apps and social media, the dissemination of these stories has become immediate, widespread, and sometimes with profound and tragic results.
Such is the story of The Slenderman, a character birthed as a “creepypasta” internet meme in 2009 that not only frightened young imaginations but resulted in the tragic stabbing of a 12 year old girl by two classmates in 2014. Is Slenderman a modern phenomenon or does it go much deeper historically and in our psyches?
My guest this week on Destination Unlimited is Nick Redfern. Nick is the author of more than 40 books on the strange, mysterious and unexplained. He has appeared on more than seventy television shows including Ancient Aliens, America’s Book of Secrets, The Unexplained Files and UFO Hunters. His website is http://nickredfernfortean.blogspot.com/ and he joins me this week to talk all things mysterious and discuss his new book, The Slenderman Mysteries: An Internet Urban Legend Comes to Life.

Connecting with Loved Ones - What Is A Medium?
There is no death just a transformation. You are a spirit having a human experience. Though this life will end for all of us, it is not the end of us. Consciousness continues and we are part of that. Maybe right now you are only aware of yourself here in this life but there is so much more than just the material world here.
What is evidential mediumship? Let’s talk about that!
Join me for a metaphysical discussion on psychic and mediumship.
I will discuss mediumship, what it is and how it differs from psychic information. Line is open for calls if you wish to call in. Join me Cynthia-Rose McCaw as I talk about the path of mediumship and psychic development.

SÉANCE: Spiritualist Ritual and the Search for Ectoplasm – Part Documentary, Part Ghost Story with Shannon Taggart
Join us this “WISDOM WEDNESDAY” at 12pm PST / 1PM MT / 2pm CST/ 3pm EST on INSPIRED LIVING RADIO as we welcome special guest Shannon Taggart to discuss her book SÉANCE: Spiritualist Ritual and the Search for Ectoplasm – Part Documentary, Part Ghost Story.
OM TIMES CALL IN LINE: 1-202-570-7057
INSPIRED LIVING RADIO: http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/inspired-living/
Photographs by Shannon Taggart. Foreword by Dan Aykroyd, creator of Ghostbusters and fourth-generation Spiritualist. 16 years in the making, part documentary, part ghost story, SÉANCE blurs the boundary between anthropology and art with an unprecedented look at the religion of Spiritualism.
Spiritualism is an American-born religion that believes we can communicate with spirits of the dead. I first became aware of Spiritualism as a teenager, after my cousin received a message from a medium who revealed a startling detail about my grandfather’s death that proved to be true. In 2001, I began photographing in the town where my grandfather’s message was received: Lily Dale, New York, home to the world’s largest Spiritualist community. I soon expanded the project and traveled to séance rooms around the world in a quest to find and photograph ‘ectoplasm’ – the elusive substance that is said to be both spiritual and material.
SÉANCE will present original photographs, as well as historical imagery that attempts to capture spirits on film. Spiritualism’s photographic past contains some of the most bizarre, absurd and uniquely unsettling images in the history of photography. SÉANCE is the next chapter.

Uri Geller says: “Whether you believe in the paranormal or don’t, Shannon Taggart’s book is fascinating and the photos are haunting!”
Mitch Horowitz, PEN Award-winning author of Occult America says: Each generation produces a very small number of artists, researchers and seekers who bring great integrity and critical realism to study of the occult and paranormal. Shannon is one of the very few in our time. As a photographer and critically sympathetic researcher, Shannon demonstrates the most rare of traits: ability to think beyond given categories and never, ever to sacrifice intellectual integrity for drama or hasty conclusions. Shannon would be a stellar researcher in any field; but in this one, so fraught with pitfalls and blind alleys, she is a worldwide resource.

To Know Water Is to Love Water
A Conversation With “Hydro-luminary” Jim Lauria
“We humans, without water, we’re sunk.” — Swami Beyondananda
Water is life.
It has been said many times and many ways … and it is true.
Not only do we humans require water, but every human endeavor does as well — agriculture, energy, industry, business, recreation. Even the “cloud” requires water, because the more information being stored and used, the more water is needed to cool the servers. The good news is, if we humans work together to manage our most precious “we-source”, we also create the pathway to manage all of our other collective problems.
Our guest this week Jim Lauria, has had a lifelong love affair with water. From his childhood in Queens at a time when New York City was famed for having the best water in the world, to his travels as an engineer to countries across the globe, to his current mission, a book called “To Know Water Is To Love Water,” Jim is a true “hydro-luminary”, a term created to describe those who hold a piece of the puzzle that will provide clean and abundant water to all.
While there are many clean water advocates out there, Jim’s experience is special in that he has spent his career actually CLEANING water. As an engineer and now VP, Sales and Marketing for Mazzei, a company that makes water treatment and management products, Jim sees the big picture and also understands the practical details of turning the ideal into the real deal.
Jim is also an expert at “mind-mapping” and on Leonardo da Vinci, particularly that great genius’ understanding of the science of water.
As we seek to find the “common sacred” amidst the divisiveness and political polarization, water is perhaps the one “identical issue” that all humans face beyond all the identity issues. Join us for this entertaining, enlightening, serious and humorous look at the looming water crisis, and the huge opportunity humanity has to work together to conserve, preserve and purify our greatest “liquid asset”.
Tune in this Tuesday, February 20th and learn more about the “da Vinci code” that can save all life on the planet, not to mention human civilization.
