Higher Ego Vulnerability and Difficulty Dealing with Adversity

This week on It’s Your Ego—Stupid!, Dr. Nick will be looking intensely into the mirror of our ability to deal with the adversity that we are all confronted with owing to the imperfection of our humanity. These include the various failures, losses, and mistakes we are all called upon to manage, from time to time. Life success is often a function of how well we get up and learn from them after having been knocked down by them. During the show I’ll be looking at symptoms, reflections of ego stupidity, and the impact on spiritual wellness which occurs when a person is being affected by higher ego vulnerability energy, in their encounters with adversity. I’ll also be looking at specific ego insights needed to transform higher ego vulnerability into a healthier and more balanced place.

Unfortunately, for those with higher ego vulnerability, they are often consumed by feelings of anxiety and fear when encountering failures, losses, and mistakes. This tends to magnify the size of the problem they are confronting, which can make it seem larger than it is. And shrink their perceived ability to manage it. Their attempts to understand and solve problems can become flooded with “emotional thinking” which gets in the way of their effectiveness. They can also be prone to anticipate failure, otherwise known as fear of failure. Leading them to avoid situations that can lead to failure, losses, or mistakes, even when the risk of these occurrences are minimal. Roles they often find their way into living, until they awaken to their ego energy, include the Perfectionist, the Overly Self-Critical Person, and the Stressed-Out Person.

The Roots of Astrology Online

Long before social media existed, Astronet was the place to go for astrological information online. Journey back to the early days of the Web in a conversation with infopreneur Eugenie Diserio, who created Astronet and built it into the Internet’s premier astrology destination.

Eugenie Diserio founded ASTRONET in the late 1990’s, during the infancy of the Internet. It quickly became the premier, most popular online astrology destination, offering a wide variety of horoscopes, astro content and personal astrology consultations to the meteoric rising digital population. “Those of us who started internet content companies were known as ‘infopreneurs’ back then,” she recalls. “It was a cosmic honor to bring the ancient art of astrology zooming into the world of cyberspace and inspire a daily audience of millions.”

Eugenie Diserio is a life-long visual artist. She studied at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, earned a BFA from Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University and an MFA from Columbia University. While a graduate student, she co-designed the catalog “Rooms,” for the inaugural show in what was to become MoMA PS1 in Long Island City, New York. After experimenting with conceptual and performance art, she co-formed the seminal 80’s art rock bands, Model Citizens, The Dance and Chandra, whose music continues to be licensed and sampled in films and recordings today.

In the late 90’s, she founded the astrology website Astronet. As CEO and with her persona Genie Easy, she was named an Internet content pioneer, a “Dot-Com Diva” and one of Harvard Business School’s Top 10 Entrepreneurs of the Year.

She resumed abstract painting full time six years ago. Her passion for astrology informs her paintings, which also reflect her practice as a devoted Yogi and meditator. Her work is in juried shows, permanent and solo exhibits and private collections.

From all of her diverse life ventures, she has learned to trust and follow intuition during the journey of a creative project.

“Regardless of what medium or context you are working with, the process and expression must reflect your authentic voice and be true to who you are. When what you are playing with is real, it usually merges with the psycho-emotional territory of others.”

Near Death Experiences (NDEs) are not a new phenomenon. Plato claimed that Socrates had had one, and so did Pliny the Elder. According to a report published a few years back, an estimated 200,000 Americans have reported experiencing an NDE, and numerous research studies have been conducted and published on this experience. To a large extent, most NDE’s we get to hear about are reported as positive, life-changing experiences. But, it transpires, the same claim can not necessarily be made when they are experienced by very young children.

Internationally respected researcher author PMH Atwater is a leading authority on Near Death Experiences, having dedicated the past four decades to researching, lecturing, compiling data, and interviewing over 5,000 adults and children. A three-time Near Death Experiencer herself, she is the author of 18 ground-breaking books on NDEs, spiritual experiences, transformations of consciousness, reality shifts, future memory and more.
