Isaac Bentwich MD – The Battlefield of the Soul and the Challenges of the Modern World
Aired Tuesday, 25 June 2019, 5:00 PM EST / 2:00 PM PST
How the Baghvad Gita Can Turn Our World Outside In
Interview with Isaac Bentwich, M.D. Author of “Gita: A Timeless Guide for Our Times”
“Ancient wisdom never gets old.” — Swami Beyondananda
The Bible … the Koran … the I Ching … for millennia scholars have gone through these “fine couth tomes” with a fine tooth comb, seeking practical wisdom, and timeless perspective.
This week on Wiki Politiki, we will be featuring one of the most heralded and widely-read ancient texts of all, the Baghvad Gita. Written more than 2,000 years ago, the Gita (meaning Divine Song), speaks to and accesses the “perennial wisdom” at the foundation of every spiritual path and practice. As Deepak Chopra has said, “Gita is the ultimate guide for your spiritual- journey.”
It has been called the “foundation of yoga.” Yet, many western yoga students want to focus on the physical aspects of yoga, and grow impatient with this story that has been foundational for those who brought yoga to the west — from Yogananda to Vivekananda to Iyengar to the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It has also captivated and inspired many of the world’s greatest creative minds — scientists, thinkers, musicians, poets, and spiritual teachers: From Beethoven to Leonard Cohen, from Gandhi to Deepak Chopra, from Carl Jung to Robert Oppenheimer (‘father’ of the atomic bomb), from Emerson and Thoreau to Will Smith and Julia Roberts.
Our guest this week, Isaac Bentwich M.D. is a longtime practitioner and teacher of Yoga and Meditation. Trained as a physician and a scientist, he has founded three life-science technology companies, leading revolutions in medicine, genomics, and environment conservation, and he now heads Innovation Center at Technion, recognized as one of the top-ten innovative universities in the world. The vision and innovations that underlie the companies he founded came through periods of silent meditation retreats at the foothills of the Himalayas and in the Galilee. His path is one of reverence to the Wisdom teachings that shine through different traditions and religions. The study and practice of Gita’s Wisdom teachings has profoundly touched his life, and he is passionate about sharing this with others. His work on this translation of the Gita spanned twelve years.
For those not familiar with the book, the Gita is a dialogue between an Indian prince, Arjuna, and Krishna—his friend, master, and God incarnate. In the midst of a dramatic battle and deep moral dilemma, Krishna guides the prince from “worldly despondency to a brilliantly clear account of the meaning of life, the source of suffering, and the paths to happiness and self-fulfillment.”
Just as Arjuna and Krishna inhabit the “battlefield of the soul,” Bentwich suggests that this “ancient inner guide is more relevant than ever in addressing the unique challenges we face in the modern world.” With the purpose of making the Bhagavad Gita more accessible and relevant to contemporary readers, Bentwich’s new translation is unique in three ways:
1. It is the only translation that recreates in English the mesmerizing melody, meter, and rhyme of the Sanskrit original.
2. Gita is “women empowering,” crafted for both men and women.
3. Bentwich crystalizes the key messages of each verse to create a simple, practical guide to inner growth.
If you’re curious how something written 2,000 years ago is uniquely applicable today, join us for a deep conversation this Tuesday, June 25th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET. http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/wiki-politiki-radio-show/

Shamanic Wisdom & Ceremonies for Transforming Our Lives and Our World with Sandra Ingerman
Aired Thursday, 20 June 2019, 7:00 PM ET
We perform ceremonies to mark important events and celebrate holidays—yet our modern approach to ceremony only scratches the surface of its true potential. In The Book of Ceremony: Shamanic Wisdom for Invoking the Sacred in Everyday Life, shamanic teacher Sandra Ingerman reminds us that when we invoke the sacred power of ceremony, we tap into one of the oldest and most effective tools for transforming both ourselves and the world.
Sandra Ingerman joins Sandie live this week to discuss:
• Why performing ceremonies are so important to people in shamanic cultures
• The elements of a powerful ceremony — setting strong intentions, choosing your space, preparing ceremonial items, and dealing gracefully with the unexpected
• Stepping into the sacred — key practices for leaving behind your everyday concerns and creating a space where magic can happen
• Invoking spiritual allies — the power of working with the elements, the natural world, ancestor spirits, and the creative energy of the divine
• Ceremonies for energetic balance — healing and blessing, resolving sacred contracts, getting rid of limiting beliefs, creating Prayer Trees, and more
• Life as a ceremony — how to infuse your entire life with ceremonial practice, from planting a garden or to revitalizing your home or office to helping heal our planet
She will also lead us in a live guided ceremony to radiate light to troubled places on the earth and share this ceremony with friends, loved ones, and in local communities.
SANDRA INGERMAN, MA, is an award winning author of twelve books, including Soul Retrieval, Medicine for the Earth, Walking in Light, and The Book of Ceremony: Shamanic Wisdom for Invoking the Sacred Into Everyday Life, and The Hidden Worlds. Would You like To Make An Impact In The World?
Aired Thursday, 20 June 2019, 4:00 PM EST / 1:00 PM PST
Pennie and Matthew will be discussing the following on Thursdays Show – First, we need to grow up emotionally. Human beings are collectively very emotionally immature. There is this thing called emotional intelligence, and we haven’t prioritized it as a species. We’ve focused primarily on developing our scientific, physical, mental and technological capacities while seriously neglecting our emotional development.
Just think what would be possible, if every child was taught how to be deeply compassionate with themselves and others. If we simply learn to process our emotions in a healthy way, we would keep our hearts open, we would be more compassionate, and all of our relationships would be far healthier and more fulfilling.
We also need to learn the importance of family and community, and to expand that to include the entire human family. There’s nothing wrong with being powerfully committed to getting our personal individual needs met, but far too many of us stop there. We might extend our sense of responsibility and commitment to those closest to us, but what about our neighbours. Most of us don’t even know our neighbours! What about the people living on the other side of the earth that you’ve never met? Why stop there? Could we extend our sense of compassion, and responsibility, to all life forms? Even to future generations?
If almost all of the world’s most pressing problems have been created by humans, then doesn’t it make sense that a shift in human consciousness is what’s needed most?
If we simply shift from patterns of selfishness and greed, to patterns of compassion, generosity, and love, We believe that all of the tangible problems will eventually get resolved.
We already know the tangible physical solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. We know what we need to do to reverse climate change. We know what we need to do to prevent war, to feed the hungry, to build ecologically sustainable societies, and to transform politics.
We just need to wake up to the truth of who we really are, open our hearts big and wide, and hold fiercely to a vision of what’s possible.
Fear and doubt have gripped the collective human psyche for far too long.
If you know anything about the law of attraction, what you pay attention to, and especially what you pay attention to with significant emotion, you attract. We do this individually, and collectively. So as long as we collectively indulge in fear and doubt, and as long as we choose to believe there is no hope for the future of humanity, then we will continue to collectively create that reality.
Hope you can join the show and enjoy.
