Dr. Elizabeth Markle – A New Approach to Creating Wellness: A Behavioral Pharmacy
Aired Friday, January 3, 2020 at 4:00 PM PST / 7:00 PM EST
When your doctor prescribes medication, they say something like, “It will be ready at the pharmacy, your insurance will cover it, and the pharmacist will help you understand the dosing.” Great! Yet, what about the behavioral-change prescriptions (advice) you are given, such as exercise more, eat better, and reduce stress?
Too often, the doctor gives you behavioral-change ‘prescriptions’ and says, “Good luck. See you in 6 months.” Leaving you with thoughts like ‘well, that sounds good, but how do I start?’ Or ‘I thought I was eating properly?’ Without the right behavioral-change setting, these types of behavioral prescriptions, while well-intended, go no-where.
Our guest has co-created a solution to ease the implementation of those behavioral-prescriptions. Elizabeth Markle, Ph.D., is co-founder of Open Source Wellness, a nonprofit place-based space offering experiential behavioral health and wellness. She shares with us this powerful wellness model designed to function as a ‘Behavioral Pharmacy.’
Open Source Wellness’ mission is community-as-medicine. They strive to leverage the power of a community to transform health outcomes by preventing and reversing chronic disease through a clinically-proven, low-cost, long-lasting behavior change program. Dr. Markle shares many of the techniques Open Source Wellness clients have implemented to create successful behavioral change, including tips on the ‘big-four’ behavioral prescriptions:
– Exercise more
– Eat Better
– Reduce your stress
– Get some social support plus so many great implementation and success strategies for well-being…

Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff!
Aired Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 1:00 PM PST / 4:00 PM EST
On this week’s show Pennie & Matthew will be discussing how we make the small stuff into an Everest size problem; out of proportion to what it needs to be.
Overwhelming feelings make us feel that we have no solution, that the world is out to get us, that there is no answer to the particular problem or set of problems we are facing right now. At this time of year we are just recovering from the holiday season… which may have been good, or it also could have seemed like an endless round of being with people we don’t really want to spend time with, eating food we would rather not have and drinking too much – which doesn’t really suit us. We feel bloated, sluggish and out of sorts… so join us and find out some good holistic remedies for 2020.

Marianne Williamson’s 2020 Vision – The Evolution Is Here … If We Want It
Aired Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM EST
Interview with Author, Teacher and Presidential Candidate Marianne Williamson
“If we want to heal the cancer on the body politic, we must first address the heart disease.” — Swami Beyondananda
Four years ago, rank and file Republican voters had the courage to follow their convictions and choose an outside-the-box, non-politician candidate who they felt best represented their world view. Establishment candidates like Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and even Ted Cruz fell by the wayside, and the Republican establishment had to fall in line behind the people’s choice, Donald Trump.
As MIT professor Otto Scharmer (http://mitsloanexperts.mit.edu/on-the-making-of-trump-the-blind-spot-that-created-him-otto-scharmer/) pointed out after the election, American voters had three choices in 2016: Move forward together, stay with the status quo, or move backward. Bernie represented moving forward together, but there is plenty of evidence that he was cheated out of the nomination (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jun/11/democrat-primary-elections-need-reform) by the Hillary forces. Hillary, according to Scharmer, represented the status quo.
And we all know what happened. The status quo was rejected, and America took a giant step backward.
Now, here we are again, and the powers-that-be in the Democratic (sic) Party have been using their influence to marginalize and discredit the one truly “radical” candidate in the campaign, Marianne Williamson. Now by radical, I don’t mean Bernie Sanders radical or even AOC radical – I mean radical in its original meaning, getting to the root cause. Unlike any other candidate, with the possible exception of Tulsi Gabbard, Marianne’s platform – go here (https://www.marianne2020.com/) to see it for yourself – is the only one that gets to the ROOT of the “shituation”, the absence of a sane and sacred center. Consequently, the unchecked and unbalanced power of money has ruled, leaving we the people at the non-mercy of a heartless system.
And while I have always liked and admired Marianne, it wasn’t until I saw her in the second Presidential debate last summer that I appreciated the power of her voice being heard. She received genuine and heartfelt applause when she broke through fog of political clichés and challenged the Democratic Party not just to provide universal health care but to get to the root of what has been making us sick – industries putting toxins in the air, water and food, depleted soil, and a toxic economic environment where 40% of us live from paycheck to paycheck, all too often without the paycheck.
I originally envisioned this interview with Marianne as a way for her to present her platform as a vision for the coming decade that should inform the Democratic platform regardless of the candidate. Instead, she issued a challenge: If Republican voters had the courage and political will to support someone who spoke to their true agenda, how about progressives? Will progressives take up the challenge to move ahead – or fall back into some “safe” candidate who might or might not be able to defeat Donald Trump? And if by some stroke of grace, that “cancer” is excised, how about the underlying heart disease?
Half a century ago, John Lennon offered a similar challenge (https://youtu.be/CbKsgaXQy2k)
“War is over … if you want it.” Now the evolution is here … if we want it. Will we settle for a lesser evil … or stand for a greater good? If we have the courage and will and yes, faith to stand together we may never need to march again.
If you’ve written off Marianne Williamson as “unelectable” or if you are still undecided, go read her platform and see the depth of her ideas. More importantly, understand she will stand behind those ideas. Remember, Donald Trump was also “unelectable” … and if a miracle is indeed needed, who better to bring it about than a Course In Miracles teacher? Decide for yourself. It’s a Process: Things You Can Do, Part III
Aired Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 10:00 AM PST / 1:00 PM EST
Massive Transformation sounds exciting, but once the first rush wears off, a person can easily get overwhelmed. Change can seem slow and daunting, the results far-off and far-fetched, maybe even impossible. The reality is that we live in a high-speed, instant-gratification world, and personal growth doesn’t neatly fit into our social and cultural models.
Good news, however: there is a lot that you can do. It begins with ac-cepting that transformation is a process, and like all processes, it takes time. Accepting this brings a tremendous sense of freedom, and hopefully relief. You do not have to solve all of your problems and overcome all of your challenges at once.
This week we continue with the third and final part of our series on Things You Can Do. These are practical and accessible tools that you can put to use right now to get on track and to help yourself stay there. These do not require a huge amount of time or effort. They are small steps, with each one taking you closer to your desired result.
Join me for our continuation of this list of actionable items. This week we will cover forgiveness, moving on from limiting beliefs with compassion, cultivating a sense of humor, and more. There is always something we can do to remain positive and transformational, no matter what life throws at us.
Recognize the tools that you can use in your life, right now, today. Ex-perience a guided meditation to help you have patience with yourself, to help you realize that transformation is a process, and that if you show up and decide each day to keep going, you are on the right path and that no matter how much time it takes, you will succeed.
There are many things you can do. Pick a few that work for you, and keep transforming.

Rachel O’Brien: Getting Out of Need with Business
Aired Monday, December 30, 2019 at 12:00 PM PST / 3:00 PM EST
Have you ever noticed when you have a need of something it doesn’t usually work out so well?
Let’s say you have a need of a relationship.
Which usually means you end up in crummy relationships because you need a relationship, instead of asking, will this relationship create greater for me?
Or let’s say you really need money.
You’re in a state of desperation.
Can you notice that when you’re in that energy of desperation about money, that then the money can’t come to you with ease?
There’s like this resistance to it that pushes it away.
Now imagine if you were to be needless in business.
What if you didn’t look at businesses as the means to an end? (ie. money to pay your bills)
What if you didn’t look at business as something you had to do, but rather something you get to do?
What else would be possible in business if you weren’t needing it?
What would you create if you could have fun with it instead?
Monday I will be taking with Rachel O’Brien about Getting Out of Need with Business.
Did you know you can call in and ask us questions about business and maybe even clear out some of your limiting points of view?
Call (202) 570-7057 on Monday 12pm PT/3pm ET.
