Carolyn Elliott – Existential Kink: Unmask Your Shadow and Embrace Your Power

In the 1930’s, pulp fiction detective novels featured a character known as “The Shadow.” These novels were turned into radio dramas in 1937, where the announcer would start each show by saying in an ominous voice, “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!”

The psychological concept of “the shadow” was formulated by Carl Jung, the founder of analytical psychology. He defined “the shadow” as “the unknown dark side of the personality”.

How does this dark side of our personality unconsciously control us and create negative patterns in our lives? Is it possible that on some level, we actually allow this and derive unconscious pleasure from the results?

My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Carolyn Elliott, says that by uncovering, understanding and embracing these “guilty” pleasures, we can clear the negative patterns they manifest including poverty consciousness, toxic relationships, creative blocks and much more. Carolyn Elliott earned a doctorate in Critical and Cultural Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. She founded the online magazine Witch to give voice to the subtle “witching” in the world that’s not confined to tradition and convention. She’s also the creator of a popular online course and an online business helping people achieve dramatic positive change in their lives through shadow integration practices and applied occult philosophy. Expanding Through Our Wants

Have you ever wanted something so much that you were willing to push through anything or negotiate or trade anything in your life to have or become it?

Have you ever wanted something, maybe even a very big something, without feeling the urge to push through and tackle it to achieve it? Something you were willing to move towards without compromising yourself or trying to force it to happen?

There’s a BIG difference between these two frequencies of wants and that is the difference between stepping OUT of our comfort zone and EXPANDING our comfort zone.

Expansion can be born from the desire to no longer be where we are, and when MORE is wanted. Our desires are like moving targets and we create new ones with every experience.

Expanding our comfort zone is done from the smallest degree to a big stretch. From an improvement to a transformation. It can be a comfortable shift if we are in a continuous aligning state.

In expansion, there’s no resistance; we simply grow into a newer, bigger version of ourselves, like a snake grows a new skin or a lobster grows a new shell.

But when we step out of our comfort zone, we hit a wall of resistance. This not only slows us down, but it also creates fear.

So how do we expand this comfort zone of ours and prevent stepping out of it?

Chase Palmieri – Crowd-Sourcing the News: Start-Up “Credder” Turns Readers Into Reviewers

At a time when disinformation, misinformation and missing information characterizes much of the news, and the trust in media is at an all-time low, might it be time to access the “wisdom of crowds”?

Our Wiki Politiki guest this week, Chase Palmieri, thinks so. He and his partner, Austin Walter, have founded a new platform, Credder, that they’ve branded “Rotten Tomatoes” for the news. Credder – rooted obviously in the word “credibility” — allows readers to review articles for veracity and bias, and then post these reviews on the Credder site. Writers are then rated on these criteria, and reviewers too are held accountable by THEIR ratings.

The site says:

We believe news should compete for credibility, not clicks. Together on Credder’s news review platform, we can hold media accountable and accelerate the news industry’s transition from clicks to credibility. Credder works by allowing journalists and the public to review articles, creating credibility ratings for every article, author, and outlet. We believe this is the only way, without censoring content, to establish a clear incentive for quality in online news.

Chase Palmieri is CEO and Cofounder of the news review site Credder.com. and is also CoHost of the nonpartisan media watchdog Project Censored’s national radio show and podcast. He has a degree in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management from Chico State University, and he and his father own Risibisi Restaurant in Petaluma, California- winner of 12 straight Michelin Guide awards. His focus is on growing Credder and bringing their “Rotten Tomatoes for news” service to readers everywhere.
