According to Hungarian-Canadian physician, speaker and best-selling author, Dr. Gabor Maté: “Trauma is a psychic wound that hardens you psychologically and then interferes with your ability to grow and develop. It pains you and now you’re acting out of pain. It induces fear and now you’re acting out of fear. Trauma is not what happens to you, it’s what happens inside you as a result of what happened to you. Trauma is that scarring that makes you less flexible, more rigid, less feeling and more defended.”

Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatiji, Ph.D., was raised in an American family in Hollywood, California, and graduated from Stanford University. Higher Ego Vulnerability and Difficulty Interacting with People in Healthy Ways

This week on It’s Your Ego—Stupid!, Dr. Nick will be looking intensely into the mirror of our ability to interact with people in healthy ways. Another way of putting it is, “How good are we at getting along with people?” Not just friends and family, but people in general. Our success in connecting with people in the broader sense—acquaintances and strangers—has important implications for our social, emotional, and spiritual growth. It’s this growth that allows us to experience peace and love for all people, regardless of their background. Something, many people have trouble doing, which is having a harmful impact on the quality of their lives. Failure to cultivate this growth often sets the stage for mental health, marital, sexual, D&A, legal, and work adjustment difficulties. Unfortunately, for those experiencing lower or higher ego power, flexibility, and vulnerability, there are lots of ‘getting along with people’ issues, rooted in these ego energies, where they have become entrapped in thought, emotional, and behavior patterns, in which they are spending more time surviving in society rather than truly living.

Unfortunately, for those with higher ego vulnerability, their consumption with their weaknesses and imperfections—often unrecognized by them—and lacking self-acceptance, often filters into the ways they interact with people. These issues often lead them to look for people who can give them what they have difficulty giving to themselves—mainly unconditional love and acceptance. This desperate need undermines their formation of healthy relationships because these significant needs often filter into relationships, including less intimate ones. Healthy relationships with others are built upon our having a healthy relationship with ourselves, to serve as a foundation, which they are lacking. They often want others to substitute for what’s lacking in the relationship with themselves—which never works. Failing to realize this, the higher ego vulnerability person is often going down a dead-end street, when it comes to forming healthy relationships with anyone. A relationship that will allow them to form healthy, secure connections to others (not attachments), that allow for room to grow in each of the participants. Roles they may find their way into living, until they awaken to their ego energy, include the Stressed-Out Person, the Overly Self-Critical Person, and the Overachiever.

During the show I’ll be looking at symptoms, reflections of ego stupidity, and the impact on spiritual wellness which occurs when a person is being affected by higher ego vulnerability energy in their ability to interact with people in healthy ways. I’ll also be looking at specific ego insights needed to transform higher ego vulnerability into a healthier and more balanced place.
