Paul Avgerinos - Home: Where Everyone is Welcome
In 1883, Emma Lazarus wrote the sonnet, “The New Colossus.” Her precious words are inscribed on a bronze plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty. The words read,
“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
For many generations of Americans, these words were also inscribed in their hearts; recognizing that other than the indigenous people of this fair land, we are all the descendants of immigrants.
Yet recently, there seems to be a memory lapse…a forgetting of how immigrants built this country with their sweat, toil, tears, blood and dreams and a rejection, based upon fear and ignorance, of the value of those who would come and join us in this purely American adventure. What can we do to restore the memories, eradicate the fear and inform those who have been misled about the seeds of greatness from foreign lands that blossomed and continue to flourish in this country.
My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Paul Avgerinos, along Deepak Chopra and Kabir Sehgal, have collaborated on a beautiful collection of poems and songs inspired by American Immigrants called, “Home: Where Everyone is Welcome.”
Paul is a first generation American, whose father Costas emigrated from Greece to the U.S. in 1938. Paul is a Grammy wining artist, composer, producer and engineer with 23 critically acclaimed New Age Albums to his credit. He is active in creating scores for a variety of television shows. He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University and runs Studio Unicorn.
Kabir Sehgal is also a first generation American and his parents are both from India. He is a New York Times and Wallstreet Journal Best Selling Author of eight books such as Coined and Jazzocracy. He ia a multi-Grammy and Latin Grammy Award Winning producer. He is a US Navy Veteran and works in Corporate Strategy at First Data Corporation in New York City.
Deepak Chopra needs little introduction. He was an immigrant from India who moved to the U.S. in 1970 and became a citizen in 1984. He is a world renowned pioneer in inte-grative medicine, founder of the Chopra Center, author, lecturer and music composer. Time Magazine labelled him one of the top 100 heroes and icons of the century.

In his soliloquy, Shakespeare’s immortal and tragic Hamlet said, “To die, to sleep – to sleep, perchance to dream – ay, there’s the rub, for in this sleep of death what dreams may come…”

Annie Mattingley - The After Death Chronicles
As humans, we are composed of body, mind and spirit. Neuroscience tells us the residence of mind is in the brain, a complex of neurons communicating with electro-chemical signals. What about spirit or soul…the eternal essence of who we are? Where does spirit reside and when these carbon based containers that we know as our bodies stop functioning and cease to exist, where does spirit go? Does spirit or soul or personality survive after death and if so can the living establish communication with them? This ageless question is one we each ask in our own way, especially when it comes to those we have loved.
My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Annie Mattingley, experienced this first hand when her late daughter started communicating with her, a communication that was both healing and transformative.
Annie has an MA in consciousness studies and has worked as a teacher, magazine publisher and hospice volunteer. She is now retired and lives in Questa, New Mexico. Her website is www.anniemattingley.com and she joins me to discuss her just released book, The After Death Chronicles: True Stories of Comfort, Guidance and Wisdom from Beyond the Veil.

Tracey Rollin - Santa Muerte
When we think of death, we think of the ultimate fate awaiting us all. Death does not discriminate and all are equal in the eyes of death. Many regard the grim reaper as the symbol of death, robed, hooded and carrying the harvest scythe. But for millions around the world, there is a feminine personification of death and she is called “Santa Muerte.” She is associated with safe passage to the afterlife and is the patron saint of people who live on the fringes of society who often face violence and death. Her followers have also come to include the LGBT community and people who have been marginalized or whose jobs put them at a risk of death including the military and police.
My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Tracey Rollin, is the administrator of the Lovely Mother Death Facebook Group, a 69,000 member community of Santa Muerte devotees. A practitioner of chaos magic and witchcraft for more than 20 years, Tracey has dedicated herself to the advancement of consciousness, spiritual understanding and personal power. Tracey is also a registered nurse with years of emergency room and trauma experience. She joins us this week to discuss her just published Red Wheel/Weiser book, Santa Muerte: The History, Rituals and Magic of Our Lady of the Holy Death.

Robert recorded and performed with such artists as The Beach Boys, Paul Horn and Charles Lloyd and served as executive director of Beach Boy Mike Love’s motion picture and recording company. Sally Quinn - Finding Magic
The word Israel, for most, reflects the name of a nation or a people. It derives from the Biblical Patriarch Jacob, who, after “wrestling with an angel” is given the name Israel, meaning “He who struggles with God.” Every sentient human being, whether a believer, agnostic or atheist, can share the name Israel because we all struggle with God. How can we make sense and find meaning and connection with the divine in a world that so often seems devoid of the foundational message of all faiths, love. Or are we actually experiencing and witnessing it every day and perhaps not recognizing it, even when it is right in front of us.
My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, famed journalist, commentator and author Sally Quinn, has lived and lives this journey of discovery. Sally is a longtime Washington Post journalist, columnist, television commentator, renowned Washington DC social hostess and founder of the Washington Post website, “On Faith.” She’s the author of several books and joins me this week to discuss her captivating new book, Finding Magic: A Personal Memoir.

We need go no further than daily news reports to acknowledge that the cost of medical treatment in the US is a major issue for many people.
