Falling in Love with Cancer with Robert Rabbin
In December 2011, Robert Rabbin was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. His spine and pelvis were riddled with tumors; nothing could be done. Prognosis? He would be dead within four months. To which Robert Rabbin responded with a “Really? Really?!”
Two days ago, Robert Rabbin posted these words on his Facebook page: “I learned that if we dive deep enough into the center of our being, we will find a life that cannot be vanquished by cancer, or even by death itself.
This week, Robert Rabbin joins Sandie to (irreverently and with complete authenticity) discuss what he learned from cancer, and why he says he has “fallen in love” with it.
About the Guest: Robert Rabbin
ROBERT RABBIN began his professional journey in 1985, after spending 10 years living and working with meditation master Swami Muktananda. Since then, he has developed an international reputation as a radically brilliant speaker and public speaking guru, as well as a distinguished self-awareness facilitator, leadership adviser, and personal mentor. Robert is the creative source and director of Speaking Truthfully, through which he offers masterclasses and private mentoring in authentic self-expression and public speaking. He has published eight books and more than 200 articles on authentic living and public speaking, leadership, self-inquiry, spiritual activism, and meditation. In January 2012, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, and was told he had a few months to live. However, in keeping with his contrarian nature, he continues to thrive past the predicted use-by date.

Navigating Consent with Kitty Stryker, author of “Ask: Building Consent Culture”
Martha invites Kitty Stryker onto the show to discuss what consent culture is, why it’s important, and how it can challenge rape culture. Kitty has been a consent activist for over 6 years, working with alternative communities to combat abuse and create sustainable accountability practices. Martha and Kitty will explore the ways in which alternative sexualities embrace constructs of consent, and the ways in which they are still learning.
About the Guest: Kitty Stryker
Kitty Stryker is a Degenderette, writer, queer activist, and authority on developing a consent culture in alternative communities. She was the founder of ConsentCulture.com, a website that ran for 4 years as a hub for LGBT/kinky/poly folks looking for a sex critical approach to relationships and which will be relaunched on 2017. Kitty also cofounded the artsy sexy party Kinky Salon London, as well as creating the award winning Ladies High Tea and Pornography Society, the SF based kink party Whippersnappers, and acts as head of cosplay for queer gaming convention GaymerX. Shawn Flynn - THE KITTY Who Rescued Me After I Rescued Him
Sigmund Freud said, “Time spent with cats is never wasted.” Albert Schweitzer said, “There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life, music and cats.” The French poet and philosopher, Anatole France, said, “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawaken.” The mutual healing relationship between humans and their animal companions is an age old story, but my guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Shawn Flynn, tells this story anew from the perspective of a modern career professional and how his life was forever changed by a beautiful Maine Coon cat named, “Kitty.”
Shawn spent more than twenty-five years in a market-research career before he stepped away to pursue his passion for writing. He knew he wanted to explore his deep connection with cats, particularly the first cat he ever rescued. Shawn and his girlfriend, Carrie, live in Enfield, Connecticut, where he takes care of several indoor and outdoor cats. He also volunteers with the local cat rescue group, Enfield Community Cat Project, and was recently designated as the group’s marketing representative. He joins me to discuss his book, THE KITTY Who Rescued Me After I Rescued Him.
