Alan Watts was a famous philosopher, author, and lecturer who popularized Zen Buddhism and other Eastern philosophies for the counterculture of the 1960s. Today, his writings and lectures remain popular and can be found online where many continue to be enlightened by the thought provoking teachings of Alan Watts. But who was Alan Watts as a person?

The daughters of Alan Watts, Joan Watts and Anne Watts, have collected and curated hundreds of their fathers letters which offer us candid insights into the private world and mind of Alan Watts.

About the Editors:

Joan Watts grew up in the United States and England, attending private schools, and then studied art at various institutions in the United States. She also studied sumi-e (Japanese ink painting) for two years in Japan. Her art has won awards in juried shows and hangs in many private collections. In addition to her art career, she spent twenty-five years as a successful fund-raiser in the nonprofit world. She retired in her fifties and moved to Montana, where for twenty years she was an occasional fishing guide and operated a bed-and-breakfast that catered to fly fishers from around the world. After retiring (again), she began, along with her sister Anne, editing her father’s letters for publication and resumed her painting. She is the mother of five successful, happy children and nine grandchildren. She lives in Livingston, Montana, with her husband, Johnny (Montana) Hale, a musician, songwriter, and retired motion picture–industry technician. Most of her life decisions have been influenced in one way or another by her father, Alan Watts.

Anne Watts’s philosophies were also strongly shaped by her experience as the daughter of Alan Watts. Anne is a certified hypnotherapist and an educator and counselor in the areas of human sexuality, sexual abuse, family stress, self-esteem, healing the inner child, and financial and aging issues. Since 1985, she has facilitated hundreds of workshops in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, England, and Germany with the Human Awareness Institute, work she is deeply passionate about. Since 2008, she has also been a regular faculty member at Esalen Institute. Anne is the proud mother of two children, Myra Krien and Michael Andrews, and three grandsons, Max Krien, Oliver Andrews, and Eli Andrews. A Conversation With Author and “Conspiracy Literacy” Expert Mark Robinowitz

Did you know… that the term “conspiracy theory” was put into circulation by the CIA in the late 1960s to marginalize those who were questioning the official Warren Commission Report on the JFK assassination?

Our guest this week Mark Robinowitz knows that, and he also knows that many of the current viral “conspiracy theories” circulating are intentionally meant to discredit and “pollute” the real ones. Mark is a writer and researcher who focuses on the intersection of deep politics and deep ecology. He runs several websites, including OilEmpire.US – A Political Map, PeakChoice.org – Cooperation or Collapse, and JFKMoon.org about President Kennedy’s call to end the Cold War and convert the Moon race to a joint US – Soviet mission. Mark is based in Eugene, Oregon where he practices permaculture and encourages re-localization as a community response to Peak Everything.

I have long appreciated Mark’s ability to cut through BS, speak truth about the “unspeakable”, and help others be more discerning. Beginning with the John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations, Mark brings deep insight and common sense understandings to these cover-ups, and the continues to unwrap and unravel the likeliest story around the 911 attacks. The Planets This Week: March 5, 2018

What do the planets have in store for us this week? On the heels of the recent Virgo Full Moon we have communication planet Mercury and love planet Venus both moving into Aries. While Mercury is in Aries your mind could be functioning at top speed and in short bursts of activity. You might not have a lot of patience to focus on one idea for too long, instead burning through one thought quickly and moving on to the next. Instead of weighing all the pros and cons of a situation, you may tend to make snap judgments based more on instinct than logic.

While Venus is in Aries your love life could be quite exciting! You might find yourself being bolder than usual, taking risks and acting on your ardent impulses. Romance can be steamy and you’re open to experimentation — just watch out for getting carried away by your passions and be sure to take care of yourself. If you’re single, this is an ideal transit for initiating new relationships, and you’ve got the confidence to go after what you want.

Also this week, Jupiter turns retrograde in Scorpio so we can expect scandals! We may find con artists come out to play and take advantage of the good will and weakness of others. Political, religious, or investment scandals are likely. During this time we may discover what is hidden. The desire to know will fuel an increase in investigative journalism and advances in science, especially medicine. Jupiter brings luck in trying to discover what is hidden. There will be more respect for investigative journalism. Jupiter gives luck, and Scorpio reveals what is not known. New advances or discoveries may lead to finding the cause or cure of illnesses we currently dread.
