Since the passing of my mother in January 2020, my brother, sister, and I have had many wonderful signs and messages that her presence is with us. With so many friends having similar losses in the era of COVID-19, I shared the following in my “Aphorisms” notes:

Life, in this dimension, is finite.

Our essential selves are infinite.

As we mourn loss in the temporal,

let us embrace the permanent

and never forget that love is eternal.

There are those who truly embrace this and, in their grief, are comforted by the presence of the essential selves of their loved ones. But what of those who do not feel this and those who doubt that this communication, this contact, is even possible?

My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Mike Anthony, was a skeptic until a series of events proved to him that love survives death. Mike Anthony has been a professional actor and a (not-professional) bartender. It was in the role of the latter that he was lucky enough to experience from an up-close perspective the ride that, Hamilton: An American Musical, took as it rocketed into Broadway history. His first book, Life at Hamilton, chronicles his extraordinary time there. Beyond his life in theater, Mike’s journey took an unexpected turn when his dad passed, leading him down a remarkable path of discovery. He now spends a good portion of his time exploring evidence suggestive of the survival of consciousness beyond the demise of the physical body. Higher Ego Flexibility and Difficulty Dealing with Significant Life Changes

This week on “It’s Your Ego—Stupid!”, Dr. Nick will be looking intensely into the mirror of our ability to manage significant life changes that we are called upon to deal with. These include developmental changes involving our health, growth, and development. Situational changes involving work, relationships, and finances. Also, societal and technological changes taking place in an ever changing world we are called on to deal with. During the show I’ll be looking at symptoms, reflections of ego stupidity, and the impact on spiritual wellness which occurs when one is caught up in higher ego flexibility energy. I’ll also be looking at specific ego insights needed to transform higher ego flexibility into a healthier and more balanced place.

Unfortunately, for those with higher ego flexibility, they often bring a very flexible, naive, and gullible way of thinking about and dealing with significant changes they encounter in their life. An approach that often emphasizes listening too much to others about how they should be thinking about and dealing with major changes taking place involving health, relationships, finances, and work, to name but a few. Often, allowing others to think for them, rather than thinking for themselves. An approach that can have them listening too much to the wrong people, about the wrong things, and at the wrong times, when it comes to dealing with change. An approach which can have them listening too little to themselves, when they are the right person they should be listening to. All reflections of ego stupidity when one is in the grips of higher ego flexibility ego energy. Roles they can find their way into living, until they awaken, include the Adult Child, the Puppet, and the Loyalist.

It’s been a paradox that “rational” observers have been puzzling over for nearly five years now. Why is it that so many Christian fundamentalists have gone gaga over Donald Trump, who seems to have embraced every one of the seven deadly sins as virtues? As the joke goes, Trump’s greatest asset is his liability – ability to lie – and yet many of Trump’s Christian followers find “truth” in his false statements.

Our guest this week, Byron Belitsos, was a journalist on site at the January 6th MAGA demonstrations and storming of the Capitol. He took photos, and informally interviewed dozens of people. He came away with a deep understanding of why people were there, and also of the Q-Anon phenomenon, and Evangelicals’ affection for Donald Trump. What were the real concerns these people had that the mainstream press isn’t talking about? What is the relationship between Trumpism and Christian Apocalpticism?

Byron Belitsos is an author, editor, journalist, and book publisher (OriginPress.org) as well as an experienced political activist and advocate of integral politics. He is also a practicing mystic and theologian, who has spent the past two years studying at Union Theological Seminary. Byron has been politically active since 1969 in a variety of venues and contexts, and became an early pioneer in the deep politics movement, working closely with David Ray Griffin, Jim Marrs, Bill Pepper, and Catherine Austin Fitts. He was the founder and CEO of Origin Press, where he published numerous award-winning books. He was also a board member of the Democratic World Federalists, and was coauthor of the acclaimed book One World Democracy (2005). He is the coauthor and publisher of A Return to Healing: Radical Health Care Reform and the Future of Medicine (2009), which won a Nautilus Gold award. Belitsos is also the author or co-author of six books on religion and spirituality including Your Evolving Soul (2018) and the forthcoming Integral Theodicy.

The Valentine’s Day Show

There are few things in a human life that consume more attention and energy than romance!

It isn’t really romance per se we are so enamored with. It is a deep desire for intimacy, to be seen and still loved, to feel that juice of life and know that we are in fact living!

Yet few really find it. A temporary high, yes. A bit of physical pleasure, also yes. But genuine intimacy, soul connection, being seen as you actually are? Not very often.

You see to know true intimacy you have to risk it all. You have to risk one of the things that human beings don’t want to experience.

Rejection!

Now there is a very god reason for that. Deep in our primitive body there is the expectation that to be rejected (by the tribe, the pack, the group) means you die.

Primitively speaking that was literally true. Some critter rejected by the group was far more likely to end up dead shortly thereafter. Not to mention the need for touch, the absence of which can literally kill us or at least leave us in a very bad state.

Not wishing to risk rejection but also needing the companionship on all levels leads me (at long last) to the title of this email and this week’s show.

Lovey Games – Hide n’ Seek

It is a very complex dance we humans do. Trying to appear to someone in the way we think will most appeal to them.

But the problem is, in this game there is no winner, just two losers.

What do men want? What do women want?

They want you, the real unvarnished, raw and vulnerable you. But showing your vulnerability means walking past one of our deepest fears and that is what we will be discussing this week.

Playing Games When We Want the Real Thing

Hide n’ Seek ~ Come Here, Go Away ~ Clue (less) ~ Pac-Man (crunch, crunch)

We have all been trained skillfully into the art of hiding. The art of keeping ourselves invisible while at the same time trying to experience what our hearts desire and our bodies and souls need.

What if you took the risk to let yourself be seen, knowing full well that you could be totally rejected. (maybe even harshly) ?

But imagine the payoff when someone acknowledges you as you actually are.
