Lower Ego Power and Difficulty Coping with Stressors and Stress

This week on It’s Your Ego—Stupid!, Dr. Nick will be looking intensely into the mirror of our ability to cope with stressors and stress, that are a part of each of our lives. These include the work, health, financial, marital, and familial stressors that contribute to the build-up of stress in us over time, and which we are called upon to manage so that they don’t get the better of us. Stressors that can manage us rather than our managing them when we are failing to manage them. Leading to chronic stress that can precipitate major health problems, including heart disease and cancer, the top two causes of premature death. During the show I’ll be looking at symptoms, reflections of ego stupidity, and the impact on spiritual wellness which occurs when a person is being affected by lower ego power energy in their encounters with stressors and stress. I’ll also be looking at specific ego insights needed to transform lower ego power into a healthier and more balanced place.

Unfortunately, for those lower ego power they are often easily overwhelmed when confronted with financial, relationship, health, and work-related stressors. Their intense sense of disempowerment weakens their perceived ability to handle them on their own. Consequently, they often avoid dealing with stressors if they are happening, try to avoid being in situations that can lead to stress, or lean too much on others to handle the stressor for them, due to their sense of helplessness. This approach often leads to the fantasy in which they want to live in a stress-free life, which isn’t really living at all. Roles they may find their way into living, until they awaken to their ego energy, include the Dependent, the Depressive, and the Underachiever.

Interview with Author, Journalist and Professor Mark Crispin Miller

As the Swami has been telling us for years now, the body politic is one sick puppy, suffering from irony deficiency … truth decay … electile dysfunction … and most recently from bi-polar disorder.

As a result, what we used to call democracy is in the intensive care unit – and those who intensively care about its survival are finding themselves more and more marginalized. Fortunately, we still have that bastion of truth, academia, where in the spirit of the Free Speech Movement more than half a century ago, academic freedom is alive and well as professors and students freely and frankly discuss the most divisive issues of our time.

Oh … wait a minute.

That must be happening in a parallel universe.

In this universe, a professor who has literally written the book on propaganda – or at least wrote the preface to one – is on the verge of being fired for teaching about propaganda. His crime? Pointing out the propaganda being promoted by the university itself.

Fortunately, his colleagues at the university have bravely rallied around him, and …

Oh … OK. That too is happening in a parallel universe.

Oh, well. All’s well that ends Orwell.

Our guest today, Mark Crispin Miller, has been fighting “notseeism” for decades, courageously pointing out those uncomfortable truths that others choose to not see. Now he is embroiled in his own battle to keep his position at NYU, after unmasking the propaganda about masking, and being guilty of “hate speech” – now defined as saying anything that the power structure hates to hear.

Mark Crispin Miller earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in 1971, and his doctorate in English from Johns Hopkins University in 1977. He is currently a Professor of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University. He is the author of several books, including, The Bush Dyslexicon: Observations on a National Disorder, Cruel and Unusual: Bush/Cheney’s New World Order and Fooled Again: The Real Case for Electoral Reform (2007).

Miller is the editor of Forbidden Bookshelf, an e-book series that revives important works now out of print, most of which were variously killed at birth. He also wrote the introduction to the 2004 edition of Edward Bernays’ book Propaganda. He is also editor of News From the Underground.

Embarrassment, Shame’s More Presentable Sister

People talk about the word shame, the low vibration of shame and how we can heal from shame however I don’t hear people using this word as often as I hear them say the word embarrassed.

“I was so embarrassed, I can’t believe I did that.’

‘I wanted to hide, I was so embarrassed’

People even throw it at others when they say ‘you embarrass me ‘ or ‘how could you embarrass me like that ?’

Why are these so painful and is there any escaping these sister words ?

Being embarrassed, revealing ourselves or being witnesses when our actions don’t quite match up with how we see ourselves, shares a common thread with shame as they both separate us from our true self.

This judgement from our ego is trying to put the breaks on continuing actions that are not accepted by the tribe and if continued will cost us greatly.

During today’s show master Spiritual Teacher GP Walsh shows us how practicing self inquiry can lift us from embarrassment and shame and lighten the experience of suffering from these two aspect of ones false identity.
