This week Sam will talk about growing up ‘too fast’ and how being thrust into dealing with thoughts and feelings before we’re ready disrupts our whole development process. Whether it’s feeling responsible for adults’ emotions or needing to contribute to financial needs, it’s not uncommon for these elements of growing up to seem entirely normal while we don’t see the real impact on a person’s future BEING.

During the show, you’ll explore the need to be taken care of and how adulting produces transformation within these places while simultaneously re-establishing a more solid foundation for everyday living. And beyond that, you’ll look at the elements of emotional maturity, how to think about BEING in life with more room for others’ differences, and how to heal and relate to your ‘growing up’ process with empathy and appreciation.

Higher Ego Power and Difficulty Interacting with People in Healthy Ways

This week on It’s Your Ego—Stupid!, Dr. Nick will be looking intensely into the mirror of our ability to interact with people in healthy ways. Another way of putting it is, “How good are we at getting along with people?” Not just friends and family, but people in general. Our success in connecting with people in the broader sense—acquaintances and strangers—has important implications for our social, emotional, and spiritual growth. It’s this growth that allows us to experience peace and love for all people, regardless of their background. Something, many people have trouble doing, which is having a harmful impact on the quality of their lives. Failure to cultivate this growth often sets the stage for mental health, marital, sexual, D&A, legal, and work adjustment difficulties. Unfortunately, for those experiencing lower or higher ego power, flexibility, and vulnerability, there are lots of ‘getting along with people’ issues, rooted in these ego energies, where they have become entrapped in thought, emotional, and behavior patterns, in which they are spending more time surviving in society rather than truly living.

Unfortunately, for those with higher ego power, they aren’t very interested in listening to people, particularly those with different ideas and viewpoints. Something they find to be disempowering, as listening invites someone else influencing what they want to think. They often think they’re the smartest person in the room and more entitled to express their opinions than others are, which rubs people the wrong way. Their sense of entitlement often makes them feel justified in attacking others, either openly or covertly, and they could care less about the repercussions of these attacks. When it comes to relationships, it’s all about them. Building a relationship for them, involves finding people they can control, which feeds their needs for over-empowerment. Roles they may find their way into living, until they awaken to their ego energy, include the Dictator, the Narcissist, and the Bully.

During the show I’ll be looking at symptoms, reflections of ego stupidity, and the impact on spiritual wellness which occurs when a person is being affected by higher ego power energy in their ability to interact with people in healthy ways. I’ll also be looking at specific ego insights needed to transform higher ego power into a healthier and more balanced place.

How to Release Regrets

The trunk in the corner caught the woman’s eye and she felt a twinge of regret.

She worked hard on collecting her painful memories and hid them in the trunk, out of sight and out of mind.

But this time, she noticed it and began to think of the things she had locked away.

The heaviest objects in the trunk were regrets, of different shapes and sizes, like: embarrassment, rejection, abandonment, fear, and shame.

She tried hard not to think of those things, but most days painful memories came up. And those regrets influenced all the important decisions in her life.

Today as she eyed the trunk, she wanted to release all those regrets and felt ready to address its contents.

In the past, she couldn’t get past the “why.” She kept thinking, “Why did I?” and “Why didn’t I?” She kept getting stuck there.

This time, she was more curious. She wondered if that trunk could turn into a treasure chest if she changed her approach.

She imagined there might be a deeper reason behind why she did or didn’t do something.

What if she found that reason and embraced it with compassion?

What if she could find a reason to be grateful in the midst of those regrets?

What if she could tap into an abundance of forgiveness and free herself from those regrets once and for all?
