Stop Dissing the Saboteur – It’s Only Trying to Protect You

Have you ever felt that someone or something was getting in the way of your happiness?

Perhaps you got close to something you really wanted, like: building a healthy relationship, having a certain amount of money, or attaining a specific career status. And then you lost it or failed to fully achieve your desire.

When disappointing things happen, over and over, we start to think that there must be a reason.

We might ask ourselves: “Do I deserve this? Why can’t I have this? Whose fault is this?”

In our need for answers, we may look for someone to blame. We may also recognize that we are the common element in all those disappointments. And we may judge ourselves as sabotaging our success.

We might say things like, “This is why I can’t. This always happens. I’ll never have this or be able to do this.”

And we may blame this on a restrictive force within us that we call the saboteur.

But the saboteur has received a bad reputation. It is not trying to punish us or ruin our lives. It’s actually trying to protect us.

In fact, when the saboteur perceives danger in any situation, it does whatever it takes to protect us, even if that means trying to stop us from continuing on our course.

It often interprets new opportunities for growth as dangerous. Then it tries to assert itself to stop us, which interferes with fulfilling our dreams.

We must learn to recognize this force at work in our lives and to understand that its desire is to protect us.

Then we must also step more fully into our power. In this way, we can co-create with the saboteur and balance its protection with the courage to step out of fear into trusting and manifesting our dreams.
