Does Your Forgiveness Leave You Struggling?

Have you ever forgiven someone, or even yourself, and still felt badly afterwards?

Have you ever been surprised to find that the thought or mention of someone or something you’ve already forgiven can cause you to feel badly, even months later?

Forgiveness can be a powerful vehicle for freedom. But sometimes we don’t feel free when we forgive.

We may wonder why, after offering or receiving forgiveness, that we’re not at peace. Why haven’t we been released from the pain and hurt?

Don’t blame yourself. What’s happening is that the forgiveness you were able to give or receive at the time was partial forgiveness.

How do you know if your forgiveness is partial?

· It releases you from most of your resentment and blame.

· You can stop telling the “poor me” story.

· But you may seek validation because you’re not fully at peace.

· It decreases the emotional charge associated with what you’re forgiving.

· But you can still get triggered by reminders of what happened or recalling the details of the drama.

Only full forgiveness gives us access to the unwounded place inside us, where there is no emotional hurt.

Partial forgiveness is good. Yet full forgiveness adds much more:

· You can see the person you forgive or be reminded of what happened with no negative emotional charge.

· Your story about what happened naturally rewrites itself to a story about finding freedom.

· You can access your full light, which had been dimmed by unforgiveness.

· You discover more clearly the truth of who you are and live that truth more fully in your life.
