Melissa Mullamphy is a clinical psychologist, healthcare advocate, and critically acclaimed author of ‘Not in Vain: A Promise Kept.’ After her mother’s passing, Melissa made it her mission to educate others on patients’ rights to quality, timely information, including understanding their healthcare rights.

After earning a degree in counseling psychology, she worked in a psychiatric emergency room. She headed up various non-profit events and organizations before turning to the corporate world and working as Domestic Operations Manager for one of Warren Buffet’s companies for nearly two decades. Putting it all on hold to help her mother during her cancer diagnosis and treatment, she saw first-hand the failures of a broken medical system. Domestic violence has increased dramatically over the past few decades with figures rising even more sharply during the Covid lockdown periods. When we hear the words ‘spousal abuse’ most of us typically assume that the victim is a woman, when the fact is about 2 in 5 of all victims of domestic violence are men. Yet the abuse of men by their female partners happens more frequently than we know, and has equally devastating effects on men and their children. That is rarely included in the by the media or recognized as an issue in society is both a tragedy and a travesty.

Lynne Renoir PhdD is a philosopher, researcher, and author of the book The Abuse of Men – An Enquiry into the Adult Male Experience of Heterosexual Abuse, which is based on her research for her master’s thesis on this topic. Lynne Renoir joins Sandie this week to shine some much-needed light on a vast social inequality that urgently needs to be acknowledged, discussed and rectified.
