Dr. Dravon James – Freedom is Your Birthright

Aired Thursday, November 19, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

In any normal year, the approaching holiday season would be met by most with anticipation, excitement, gift shopping, the planning of family gatherings and holiday parties. Even during “normal” years, there is often stress that accompanies the joy. With the unprecedented series of events that 2020 has delivered, one might question not only how we might greet the holidays but whether there is a reason to celebrate at all. In this era of COVID-19, mixed messages and outright mistruths from leadership, egregious acts of racial violence and bigotry and the most divided this nation has been since the 1800’s, is there a way to remember who we are as a people, embrace one another with compassion and love and find joy in the holiday season.

My guest this week on Vox Novus, Dr. Dravon James, offers us tools, insights and the wisdom we need to make the most of not only this holiday season, but in the months and years to come. Dr. Dravon James is the founder of Everyday Peace, the host of Everyday Peace on Unity Radio, a Life Coach, and the author of Freedom is Your Birthright. As an inspirational speaker, Dravon’s goal is to educate, empower, and inspire others to build the life of their dreams no matter what shows up in their lives- good, bad, or otherwise. Dravon is the happy mother of two teenagers, a successful pharmacist, inspirational speaker, author, and actress whose career credits include a recurring role on HBO’s acclaimed “The Wire”, many stage plays, and independent films. She continues to inspire and teach what she knows to be the most effective tool for transforming, creating, and building a spectacular life—tapping into “Everyday Peace.” Her client list includes the University of the District of Columbia, New Hope World Ministries, Today’s Care Adult Daycare, Stadium Place, and Next Chapter online radio. Her website is https://drdravonjames.com/ and she joins us this week to share her wisdom, her path and tell us about her book, Freedom is Your Birthright.

Theresa Cheung – The Sensitivity Code

Aired Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

On March 23rd, 1965, something amazing happened at the Bell Sound Studios here in New York City. The lovely voice of singer Jackie DeShannon filled the studio with Hal David’s lyrics to the song he and Burt Bacharach composed, “What the World Needs Now Is Love.” We could easily adapt this same theme to our world today and perhaps paraphrase it with, “What the World Needs Now is Compassion.” Perhaps this is something that many of us recognize not only intellectually, but viscerally connect with in our body and spirit. If you are feeling this, you are a sensitive soul and many of us, in extending our sensitivity and compassion, often feel rejected and out of place in a world that so desperately needs the gifts of spirit we bring.

My guest this week on Vox Novus, Theresa Cheung, says that there are more of us out there than we may realize and lovingly offers tools and advice for sensitive souls to thrive and fulfill our purpose. Theresa Cheung has been researching and writing about spirituality, dreams and the paranormal for the past twenty-five years. She has a Masters degree from Kings College Cambridge University in Theology and English and several international bestselling books, including two Sunday Times top 10 bestsellers to her credit. Her Dream Dictionary A to Z regularly bounces to number 1 in its Amazon category and is regarded as a classic in its field. Her spiritual books have been translated into more than 40 languages and she has written numerous features for national newspapers and magazines. Theresa’s media appearances include an interview with Today Extra, Piers Morgan on GMTV, guesting on episode 71 of Russell Brand’s Under the Skin podcast and decoding dreams live on Coast to Coast AM. She has also given numerous sold out talks at venues such as Olympia, Alexandra Palace and The College of Psychic Studies. She works closely with scientists studying consciousness and has her own popular spiritual podcast: White Shores, as well as a busy author page on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Her website is https://www.theresacheung.com/ and she joins me this week to discuss her latest book, The Sensitivity Code: Life Strategies for Thriving in an Overwhelming World.

Sandy Cowen – Hi Momma, It’s Me.

Aired Thursday, November 5, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

In my two-plus decades as an Interfaith Minister, I’ve officiated both joyous and sad services for family and friends. Offering comfort at funerals is always a challenge because grief is a highly individual process and the greatest comfort comes from sacred presence, empathic listening and offering a few compassionate words, when appropriate. From personal family experience prior to ministry, I learned that when someone loses a child, there simply are no words to comfort the bereaved. The best we can do is to create sacred loving presence in whatever form they request. But is their another form of comfort and reassurance that may be offered from the other side?

My guest this week on Vox Novus, Sandy Cowen, learned through the loss of her adult son, Jon, that transition is not an end but a new beginning. Sandy Cowen has always been dedicated to the empowerment of others as an entrepreneur, community leader and expert on the holistic healing process. Now, an author and speaker, she shares a gift she’s kept hidden for decades. Prompted by her son’s passing, Sandy is coming forward with her story to help others find peace and even joy in the face of profound loss. Her website is https://www.sandycowen.com/ and she joins me this week to share her story and her new book, “Hi Momma, It’s Me.” — How Souls Stay Connected Forever and the Power of Undying Love.

Ananda More – Magic Pills

Aired Thursday, October 29, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

In my fifties, I would often experience being awakened from a deep and sound sleep by excruciating pain in my calves. My wife suggested I try these tiny white pills, two or three placed under the tongue, that she found to be effective in relieving and preventing these cramps. I tried them and they worked! On the label was printed the word, “homeopathic.” This was my introduction to homeopathy and later she introduced me to other remedies including Arnica Montana for bruises and other muscle spasms. Each of these treatments, for me, proved to be safe and effective. They were also inexpensive, did not require a prescription and were readily available at our local health food store. If these remedies were this good, why were they not prescribed and recommended by physicians? Furthermore, why did media try to dismiss the benefits of homeopathy and accept the word of skeptics without looking at the scientific data?

My guest this week on Vox Novus, Ananda More, asked these same questions. Ananda began as a skeptic of homeopathy until a profoundly transformational experience while backpacking through India and experiencing homeopathy for herself. She always knew that she wanted to dedicate her life to helping others, and instead of going to law school she decided to pursue homeopathy as a career. Ananda graduated from the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine in 2005, went on to study around the world with some of the most highly recognized homeopaths, and became co-owner of Riverdale Homeopathy, a clinic, bookstore, dispensary and general hub for everything homeopathic in North America. She has served on the council for the homeopathic regulatory body of Ontario as well as the board of the Ontario Homeopathic Association. Her path also took her on another journey, a quest to find out why so many questioned the efficacy of homeopathy. Using her wonderful story telling and theatrical background, she produced and directed a breathtaking and moving film of this journey. This film is called, “Magic Pills: Homeopathy-Promise or Placebo.

Dr. Christopher Macklin – History, Truth and Healing

Aired Thursday, October 22, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

You meet someone that you have never consciously met in this lifetime and have an immediate feeling that you know them. You feel closeness, trust and a knowing about them. This familiarity may be so great that it seems familial—that this person is somehow family. This meeting seems more than chance, almost predestined. And in this meeting there is a higher purpose at work for both of you and perhaps your extended community and the world. You may have reunited with soul family.

My guest this week on Vox Novus, Dr. Christopher Macklin, says these reunions are happening frequently and they are essentially about finding our way back home. Dr. Christopher Macklin is a Melchizedek Being and is a powerful channeling medium and healer from England. He utilizes Divine Healing techniques cultivated through Divine Knowledge from God and the spirit world to help people recover from all types of illness. Christopher is able to heal many people simultaneously with the help of God’s Angelic Light Beings who work with Christopher to rebalance the body’s energy field by clearing chakra points and cleansing the body’s meridian field by removing blockages and negative energies. He’s the author of History, Truth and Healing and his website is https://www.globalenlightenmentproject.com/.

Alison Warden – Your Story: An Illustrated Guide to Simple Psychology and Therapy

Aired Thursday, October 15, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

Imagine if there was a delightful, wonderfully illustrated, story book that explained the nature of life, the connection of body, mind and spirit, and the way of finding balance, happiness and fulfilment. Imagine that this story book could open your heart and bring you an understanding of how you developed into the person you are and offer insight into who you could become. Imagine that this story book told a very special story: Your Story!

Your imagination has manifested in reality! My guest this week on Vox Novus, Alison Warden, has written it! Alison Warden Alison has worked as a Gestalt Therapist in Harley Street, London and at the Hale Clinic. She is currently practicing in London, Norfolk and France. It was while living in France for two years in a secluded mountain house that she created the book we have all been imagining, beautifully and whimsically illustrated by her marine biologist son, Ben Warden. Your Story brings together the four cornerstones of humanity – the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional consciousness – so any reader can figure out who they are, why they act as they do and how they can live their life to the fullest. Through a series of simple stories and metaphors, including fun illustrations by the Alison’s son Ben, the mind-boggling intricacies of psychology have finally been simplified in a way anyone can understand. Her website is https://alisonwarden.com/ and she joins me this week to discuss her path and her book, Your Story: An Illustrated Guide to Simple Psychology and Therapy.

Dr. David Hanscom – Back in Control: A Surgeon’s Roadmap Out of Chronic Pain

Aired Thursday, October 8, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

In 2018, the Centers for Disease Control reported that an estimated 20% or fifty-million adult US citizens suffered from chronic pain. It went on to say that the overall chronic pain prevalence in the US is higher than that of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined. The studies concluded that chronic pain is the number one disability in America. The public’s perception of chronic pain is that it’s unsolvable and the best one can expect is to live well with it. The reality is that modern neuroscience research has revealed answers and it is a solvable problem. Most of this data hasn’t penetrated into the thinking of mainstream medicine. How may we successfully address chronic pain? In doing so, are there also answers to reducing the devastating effects of COVID-19?

My guest this week on Vox Novus, Dr. David Hanscom, has dedicated himself to finding these answers and has been successful in helping others live pain free. He is committed to bringing these concepts out into general awareness. Dr. Hanscom is an orthopedic complex spinal deformity surgeon who was based in Seattle, WA. He quit his more than 32 year surgical practice in 2018 to focus on teaching people how to break the grip of chronic mental and physical pain. His mission is to re-introduce true healing into medicine. He feels that doctors should be given the time to listen and understand their patients. Difficult life situations surrounding their medical problems have a tremendous impact on care and outcomes. Dr. Hanscom is the author of Back in Control: A Surgeon’s Roadmap Out of Chronic Pain, now in its second edition and Do You Really Need Spine Surgery?: Take Control with a Surgeon’s Advice. His website is https://backincontrol.com/ and he joins me this week discuss his experience, techniques and how these may also address the body’s response to COVID-19.

John Howard Steel – Caged Lion: : Joseph Pilates & His Legacy

Aired Thursday, September 24, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST

When someone close to me was receiving physical therapy for a back injury, this person was instructed by the therapist to use certain techniques in repetitions of ten. Not being familiar with the techniques, the question was asked about the source. The answer was Pilates. I recalled seeing references to Pilates at exercise studios throughout New York City but never really explored this. Recently, I received a copy of a book entitled Caged Lion: Joseph Pilates & His Legacy. Imagine my amazement when I discovered that Pilates was actually a man’s name and that today his techniques are practiced by more than ten million people world-wide!

My guest this week on Vox Novus is John Howard Steel. John Howard Steel practiced law for sixty years and Pilates for nearly as long. As one of the few people still alive who studied with and knew Joseph Pilates both in and out of his studio, he is in a unique position to tell this story. John Howard Steel has been interviewed in numerous publications and regularly lectures to teachers and studio owners on the history of Pilates. He lives in Santa Barbara, with his wife, Bunny. He joins me this week to discuss his first book, Caged Lion: Joseph Pilates & His Legacy.

Zara Stone – The Future of Science is Female: The Brilliant Minds Shaping the 21st Century

Aired Thursday, September 17, 2020, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST In the past few months, I’ve been including PSA’s (Public Service Announcements) that emphasize STEM education for young women. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. In our rapidly changing world, there is a growing need for new entrants into these fields and young women, in particular. How may we encourage young women to seek out STEM based education and careers? Who are the women who have followed that path and are making enormous contributions today? What special insights and approaches have women brought to these fields and how are they benefiting our country, our world and all of humanity?

My guest this week on Vox Novus, Zara Stone, has examined those very questions. Zara Stone is an award-winning journalist who writes for The Atlantic, The Washington Post, OneZero, Wired Magazine, Cosmopolitan, The San Francisco Chronicle, The BBC, and Forbes Magazine, among others. She was born in London, England, and moved to New York for further study. She graduated from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and jumped into the U.S. media world, reporting for The Wall Street Journal, then transitioning into on-air reporting for ABC News. Now a full-time freelance writer and author, she spends her spare time playing games in virtual reality, speed-reading (120 books a year!), hula hooping, and falling off her paddle-board. She lives in San Francisco and cares for three artificial houseplants. Her website is http://zarastone.net/ and she joins me to discuss her just published book, The Future of Science is Female—The Brilliant Minds Shaping the 21st Century.
