Holden Zama – Alternative Health Practitioner, Founder of MetaTouch Body Balance, Licensed Massage Therapist, Business Coach. Holden began his career as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Southern California. There, he worked to keep the student-athletes as injury and pain-free as possible. He graduated with a BA in Psychology and a minor in pre-physical therapy from USC. After leaving USC he realized there was a major gap in the medical field. The most common course of treatment for muscular-skeletal injuries or pain was; drugs, injections, PT then surgery. Most of which would focus on the symptoms, not the root cause. Holden knew there was another option. He knew that if the root cause of the pain was discovered (using targeted manual therapy techniques to help return balance back to the body) it would lead to enormous increases in range of motion, reduction of localized and systemic pain and more consecutive pain-free days than other, more traditional treatments. With this focus in mind, Holden created the “MyoAlign Technique” This technique allows the practitioner to discover key fascial restrictions in the tissue and correct them, bringing balance back to the body and reducing pain. Holden teaches this technique in seminars to other practitioners and to all of his staff at MetaTouch.

With 28 years practicing bodywork and over 300,000 clients treated, Holden has been called a true healer. His ability to quickly discover the root of pain and dysfunction, and find a solution to that pain, all while connecting with each client’s specific needs, has allowed him to become one of the premier therapists in the world. The word ayahuasca has been variously translated as “liana of the soul,” “liana of the dead,” and “spirit liana.” It is also called “la purge” because it cures the soul, offering a profoundly introspective journey that allows users to examine their emotions and ways of thinking. Plant medicine is part of the practices of approximately 100 indigenous groups in the Amazon, spread across Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and Venezuela. These communities are stewards of the Amazon rainforest, which houses 10 percent of the world’s known biodiversity. Also, notably, their sacred practices with plant medicines are a mechanism by which they commune with this ecosystem and build resilience to protect it from outside forces. Each of these practices is unique. Anthropologist Luis Eduardo Luna, in his thesis Vegetalismo, lists 42 names for the ayahuasca brew or the Banisteriopsis caapi vine. In Brazil alone, the brew is called uni, nixi pãe, caapi, and camarampi, among other names. The word “ayahuasca” itself comes from Quechua. This language was the official language of the Inca Empire and is still spoken today in various dialects, mainly in Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia. It comes from the word “ayahuasca” or “waska,” which most agree means “rope.” “Aya,” however, is interpreted by some scholars as a reference to death and interpreted by others as a reference to spirit. This minor disagreement provides a glimpse into the considerable implications that etymology can have for our understanding of a plant and its meaning to different communities.

ABOUT JOHN PURKISS:

John studied economics at Cambridge University and began his career in banking, in London and Chicago. He completed his MBA at INSEAD in France, where he won first prize. John was then diagnosed with clinical depression, which nearly proved fatal. Having understood that intelligence and hard work did not guarantee happiness and success, he began to look for solutions, while working in the UK, Belgium and France. He was living in Paris when he finally learned to be present, let go and ask to be guided. His life suddenly changed for the better. John was soon in the perfect job – in London – achieving his financial goals with ease. He then learned Transcendental Meditation and began to write. However, he realised that everyone was stuck in one way or another, whether it was in the areas of health, wealth or relationships. Finally, in 2014, he met his guru, from whom he learned the completion technique, described in chapter three of both The Power of Letting Go and Learn to Let Go – a Guided Journal.

Free Will and choice have always been our greatest strengths as humans, and we can choose to walk through this portal of change and transformation, dragging along with us the heavy carcasses of our prejudice, ego, racism, and hatred, our avarice, our dead rivers, our burning forests, and our smoky skies. Alternatively, we can walk through lightly, with a positive, determined, and inspired mindset ready for change with little luggage from our past and our history, governed ego, power, and greed, and embrace a new world from what history will look back on as our third Renaissance for the 21st Century. A world full of healing, equality, justice, humanity, equal opportunity, impartiality, balance, uniformity, self-mastery, sustainability, homeostasis, and what Marc views and forecasts as “The Great Coming Together!”

Did COVID-19 and the deadly global pandemic help us create this new Renaissance? History once again is advising and showing us everyday since. A rapid transformation of self, human consciousness, the psychology and anthropology of the mind, society, home, career, and awareness for our planet. There have been two historical renaissances to note. The first, the Asian Renaissance, was very personal: the quest for inner peace, enlightenment, and the utopia of the mind.
